2024 Ford F150 vs 2024 Ram 1500

2024 Ford F-150 vs 2024 RAM 1500

Both the Ram 1500 and Ford F150 are power players in the full-size pickup truck segment. Despite both being fan favorites in their own respects, both offer a different spread of trim levels, price points and options, which opens up the discussion on which is a better option.

Exterior

The 2024 Ram 1500 is purpose-built, with a rugged exterior packed with utility items and features. Thanks to the widespread trim levels, there is also a wide spread of exterior choices, however, each distinct group still retains the muscular nature of the 2024 Ram 1500. The first thing you will see when viewing the all-new Ram 1500 is the wide-set grille, featuring the Ram logo proudly in the center. Behind this, is a muscular hood that contains one of the three versatile yet potent engine options available for the 2024 Ram 1500. Purposeful body lines lead your line of sight across the side of the Ram, to the back where a purpose-built bed with a hitch awaits you. This is rounded off nicely with another Ram logo across the back tailgate.

The 2024 Ford F-150 on the other hand, takes a more refined approach to its exterior design. The F150 features a wide-set grille as well, however, it is significantly less bold than the Ram’s grille and creates a more tame and less rugged look. This is also seen with the overall body lines and bumpers of the 2024 Ford F150, leading to an overall sleeker appearance.

New for the Ford F150 is the addition of a split tailgate that swings open. Despite this being a new feature on the F150 for 2024, the Ram 1500 has already mastered this incredibly innovative and crucial piece of functionality. The 2024 Ram 1500 uses a 60/40 split tailgate with two sections that can swing out. This tailgate can also open flat and has a step that emerges from the center of the tailgate to facilitate ease of use.

Both the 2024 Ram 1500 and Ford F150 have numerous exterior choices, thanks to the wide variety of trims available, so keep that in mind. If you want a more rugged-looking F150, you can get the off-road built F-150 Tremor or F-150 Raptor. Similar to this, the 2024 Ram 1500 has off-road trim levels such as the Rebel and TRX, the TRX being the most powerful truck in its segment sharing an engine with the Hellcat lineup of Dodge vehicles.

Trim Levels and Pricing

2024 Ram 1500

  • The Tradesman ($38,570) trim is a practical and budget-friendly option for buyers who value utility over luxury features. Despite the bare-bones nature of this truck, you will still receive best-in-class rear legroom, 14.9-inch brake rotors, and an 11,540-pound max towing capacity. Some additional small touches include a new LED trailer hitch light, a rear backup camera, remote keyless entry, and power locks and windows.
  • The Big Horn ($44,030) trim adds some flair to the mix with a chrome grille surround, with chrome front and rear bumpers. You will also find some additional creature comforts on the inside such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, an available 7-inch digital cluster, and available dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
  • The Laramie ($54,030) features heated and ventilated leather seats that are 10-way power-adjustable. On top of this, you get a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. You also get some additional safety features like Advanced Brake Assist and Forward Collision Warning. Adding to the creature comforts are dual-zone automatic temperature control, memory driver seat and exterior mirrors, and adjustable pedals.
  • The Rebel ($58,745) is a sporty upgrade with its performance hood, tow hooks, and two-tone paint job. It puts its power to the ground through some beefy 33-inch all-terrain tires and features an electronic locking rear axle and skid plates. You also get more ground clearance with the Rebel, with its 1-inch lift giving it a total of 9.7 inches of ground clearance.
  • The Limited ($65,205) is known as the most luxurious and technologically advanced Ram 1500 ever. This is thanks to the 12-inch programmable driver information digital cluster display, class-exclusive air suspension, premium leather details, and powerful 5.7L Hemi V8 engine.
  • The TRX ($85,700) trim is best described as its highest accolade: the most powerful street-legal production pickup truck in its class. With 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, the TRX’s Supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 is nothing to be played with.

2024 Ford F-150

  • The XL ($38,565) is your base trim and classic work truck. With no gimmicks, the XL aims to provide the utility of the F150 platform without sacrificing affordability.
  • The STX ($45,890) adds some more creature comforts over the XL trim while also offering a more powerful V8 engine option, as opposed to the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost found in the XL trim.
  • The XLT ($49,615) takes it up another notch with chrome exterior styling on the bumpers and wheels, and some additional tech like a 360 camera with trailer backup and hitch assist.
  • The Tremor ($65,945) is known to some as an affordable Raptor, with its lower price point but punch 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine that is shared with the Raptor trim.
  • The Lariat ($66,990) is where things get more luxurious, with upgraded exterior styling like 20-inch chrome wheels and interior upgrades like a Bang and Olufsen sound system and voice recognition technology.
  • The King Ranch ($75,725) is filled with features such as heated and ventilated leather front seats, as well as an available PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 engine.
  • The Platinum & Platinum Plus ($73,425 & $84,495) gives you the luxury and technology features you get with the other trim levels, with a slightly sportier look thanks to its gloss black exterior accents and wheels.
  • The Raptor & Raptor R ($79,975 & $111,550) featuring a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine and off-road additions such as a skid plate, Fox shocks, and more, the Raptor is poised to take on the TRX directly, despite being overall less powerful.

As you can see, both the 2024 Ram 1500 and the 2024 Ford F150 have a wide variety of trim options. They also have a similar spread of pricing, however, the Ford F150 pushes beyond Ram’s pricing with their addition of the Raptor R. The Raptor R is posed to compete directly with the Ram TRX, with its 700 horsepower compared to the TRX’s 702 horsepower, however, it is significantly more expensive.

Interior

Similar to the exterior, the interior has near-endless options depending on which trim level and package you opt for. In today’s day and age, creature comforts in pickup trucks are looked at as a necessity similar to pure utility, and both the Ram 1500 and Ford F150 strive to provide both for their 2024 model years. The 2024 Ram 1500 is the most luxurious Ram ever, and it has been packed with some truly amazing creature comforts and features. Some of these include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon speakers, and an interior lined with supple leather. The 2024 Ram 1500 is also packed with endless storage space, which accentuates its purpose-built nature.

Due to the 2024 Ford F150 being only recently announced, we do not have full details of the interior creature comforts and what the more luxurious trim levels may hold. Based on photos though, we can infer that you will also be greeted with ample storage space in the 2024 F150 as well as the choice to option your truck with quilted leather seating. When looking at the 2023 F150 King Ranch, we can see that the option to have an upgraded Bang & Olufsen as well as leather-trimmed seats is available, however, you do pay a premium for this trim level over the comparable 2024 Ram 1500 trim.

As far as interior dimensions go, the 2024 Ram 1500 Crew Cab will grant you more legroom than the Ford F150 alternative, however, the Ford F150 (2023) has more front legroom. There is also over 18 cubic-feet more cargo space within the 2024 Ram 1500 when compared to the F150. We do not have the exact dimensions of the 2024 Ford F-150 yet, however, we anticipate it to retain most of its dimensions from 2023.

Safety & Driver Assistance Technology

Despite not having a ton of information on the creature comforts of the 2024 Ford F150, we do have information on some of the technology available. New for 2024, the F150 will feature a 12-inch touchscreen, set to the right of the driver that houses all the entertainment and vehicle comfort options and settings. Paired with this is a 12-inch digital cluster screen, which displays the vehicle’s speed and relevant gauges, along with a whole host of other configurable information. However, when comparing this to the 2024 Ram 1500, we find that the Ram offers the same sizing with its 12-inch vertical center display screen, and its 12-inch digital gauge cluster and head-up display. What separates the Ram is the vertical nature of its center screen, which creates a more intuitive tablet feeling than consumers are generally used to. Both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 prioritize the safety of trailer use, with distinct features available to assist with this common usage of the trucks. The 2024 Ram 1500 offers a trailer detection system, that helps you back up and safely navigate with a trailer attached. The 2024 Ford F150 has a similar feature, that uses the rear camera to help align the trailer and back it up in a safe fashion, similar to the Ram.

Both the 2024 Ram 1500 and 2024 Ford F150 are packed with the most modern and up-to-date standard safety features, which means you have ease of mind no matter what choice you opt for.

You can expect to receive updated versions of the following crucial standard safety features:

  • Pre-collision Alerts and Assistance
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert

The 2024 RAM 1500 also received the NHTSA’s 5-star overall safety rating, validating the safety prowess of the model.

Powertrain Availability and Fuel Efficiency

There are 3 versatile engine options available for the 2024 Ram 1500. The first of which is the tried and true classic, the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine with eTorque. The eTorque system is a mild hybrid system that adds both efficiency as well as an additional 130 pound-feet of torque, without sacrificing that pure V8 Hemi exhaust note that truck buyers have fallen in love with. This 5.7L Hemi can tow up to 12,750 pounds and delivers 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Next on the list is a 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine with eTorque technology that pumps out 305 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This V6 engine also delivers a best-in-class hybrid payload of up to 2300 pounds and is able to tow up to 7,730 pounds. Last on the engine lineup list, but definitely not least, is the 6.2L Supercharged Hemi V8 that is exclusive to the TRX trim. This monster pumps out 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, the most powerful engine in its class. All trim levels are equipped with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission.

As far as mpg goes, you can expect to achieve a 22 mpg combined city/highway with the 3.6L V6 (2wd). 20 combined city/highway with the 5.7L V8 (2wd), and 12 mpg combined city/highway with the 6.2L Supercharged V8 (4wd).

The 2024 Ford F-15o will offer 6 distinct engine options, twice as many as the 2024 Ram 1500. These include a 2.7-liter EcoBoost, 3.5-liter EcoBoost, 3.5-liter PowerBoost, 3.5-liter High Output (Raptor), 5.0-liter V8, and a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 (Raptor R).
