It's that time of the year again. The holidays are wrapping up, and your family is searching for something to do. Why not go check out a new film at your local theatre? Sounds like a great idea to us here at Walser Chrysler Dodge Jeep - although around this time of year we get nostalgic for films from the past. In fact, why not come with us on a trip down memory lane? Let's look at some famous Dodge film appearances, both past and present.
There are many film-featured Dodge vehicles from which to choose, but in this blog, Walser Chrysler Dodge Jeep will focus on five of the most famous HEMI V8 powered or big block Dodge vehicles that have held starring roles in Hollywood. In order from their year of debut, we'll start with the film Bullitt (1968), staring the Dodge Charger R/T. This film features one of the most epic and car chase scenes in the history of cinema. Two different Dodge Charger cars were used in the film to achieve the ultimate chase. Next comes Vanishing Point (1971), starring the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, which is another classic muscle car movie. Eight white Dodge Challenger cars were used in this movie, and the one most often seen by viewers held a 440 cubic-inch V-8.
Three other films worth mentioning are Blues Brothers (1980), starring the 1974 Dodge Monoco, Death Proof (2007), staring the 1969 Dodge Charger and the 1970 Dodge Challenger, and the latest film, Fast Five (2011), starring the 2010 Dodge Charger. Blues Brothers is chock-full of car chases and blues music and wrecked a record 103 cars in its making. The iconic "Bluesmobile" was, in fact, 12 different cars, some of which were built specifically for the film. The 1970 Dodge Challenger in Death Proof was a part of an epic chase scene in which an actress was strapped to the hood. The film's actual title came from the director's efforts to make the vehicles safer for the stunt men and women, and essentially, "death proof." The 2011 film, Fast Five used real cars in many crazy stunt situations instead of the traditional CGI and miniature models often used in production today.
The U.S.-made Dodge vehicles certainly have made quite a name for the company over the years with these film appearances. But, while these film appearances are fantastic, perhaps you would like your own Dodge sitting in your driveway instead of simply watching the iconic vehicles on screen.
