Chrysler to Add a New Body Shop at Sterling Heights Manufacturing Facility

2009 was a rough year for companies across industry verticals. But, it was particularly hard for companies in the auto industry. Chrysler was no exception. At that time, there was no guarantee that automaker's Sterling Heights Manufacturing Facility would survive. Chrysler didn't even include the plant in their reorganization plans.
Flash forward two years to present day; and circumstances seem to have done a 180. Things are, dare we say, looking quite rosy.
At the end of last year, Chrysler promised to sink $850-million into a new paint shop for the Sterling Heights plant. This October, they followed up with a promise to invest over $165-million into a new state-of-the-art body shop. They've also just presented the UAW (the union which represents thousands of Chrysler workers in the U.S.) with a proposal to invest $4.5-billion and create 2,100 new jobs.
The day, Chrysler announced the addition of the new body shop, Scott Garberding, Senior VP, and Head of Manufacturing, Chrysler said, "Today marks another milestone in the rags-to-riches story of the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant. A plant that was slated to close nearly two years ago will now...play an integral role in the success of this company by building the next-generation of all new vehicles."1
We don't know about you, but we think Chrysler is one underdog deserving three cheers for their tenacity...Hip-hip hoo-rah! Hip-hip hoo-rah! Hip-hip hoorah!
